![]() ![]() I was in wireless communication with my aeroplanes, which were some eight miles distant, and my tanks I placed in front of my position but beautifully disguised as haystacks. I hid my cavalry in a thick wood quite close to and on the flank of my position. The opposing force comprised an infantry brigade, a field artillery battery and a squadron of cavalry. I had to take up a position on a low ridge. I was given command of the skeleton enemy comprising four aeroplanes, six tanks, a squadron of cavalry and two skeleton battalions. In early September the garrison of Cologne was engaged in brigade training.
